Since the emergence of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula during the 7th century, the population of the UAE has predominantly been Muslim. The way of life, attire, political structure, and cultural as well as societal norms of the Muslims residing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and other emirates of the UAE are rooted in the teachings of the Qur’an and Islam. With over 76% of the United Arab Emirates’ population being Muslims, the UAE boast a range of mosques, found on practically every corner and within various complexes, regardless of their size. Additionally, there are a plethora of Islamic institutes, including madrasas and Islamic centers, where both children and adults engage in learning Islam and the sacred Quran.
